One year ago today, The Barefooted, Bad-Tempered Baby Brigade hit the streets, er, shelves, with protest signs and an anti-mashed peas agenda. Today it's a First Birthday celebration! And what better way to celebrate than a giveway?
To be entered in my drawing for a free, signed copy of The Barefooted, Bad-Tempered Baby Brigade, here's what you need to do:
- For your entry in the drawing, all I need is your name - either as a comment in this post, or as an email to deborah [at] deborahdiesen [dot] com
With this in mind, I'd also like to ask that all entrants:
- Plan to read and/or share with a child a book by a Michigan children's book author or illustrator some time in the next few weeks
- You don't have to tell me which author/illustrator or book -- it's just honor system
- To get you started, there are some Michigan author and illustrator names listed here. I also welcome recommendations in the comments. And I'll probably blog some suggestions along the way.
In terms of picking a winner:
- Entries will be taken until April 17th
- Winner will be selected using the official pull-a-name-out-of-the-hat method
- Winner will be announced by April 24th
I think it's probably best that I limit entrants to U.S. and Canada, since I don't know about postage or postal restrictions to other places. But if you're in another country and really do want to enter, please contact me and I'll look into it further.
I hope you'll enter, and/or encourage folks you know to enter. On behalf of the babies and myself, thanks for being part of this bad-tempered birthday!

Debbie,
My 7 year old just loved your Pout Pout fish books.Of course she also loved taking it into her class for her teacher to read it. Thanks for sending the bookmarks, they all loved them.
We are HUGE fans of The Pout-Pout Fish and would love to have the opportunity to share The Barefooted, Bad-Tempered Baby Brigade with all our friends and family.
Hi Debby,
Can I (Dutch) participate?!
I'll try to loosly translate the Pout-Pout Fish and combine it with mouth-motor skills!!
Great giveaway--thanks!
I'm hoping to read Aaron Zenz's newest book, Chuckling Ducklings and Baby Animal Friends with my kids soon. I believe he lives in Michigan, though I don't see him on your list.
Thanks for the chance to win! I would like to get The Secret of the Bradford Home for my daughter.

I love the pout pout books. I look forward to checking this one out. I hope I win (cross fingers).
I found I was avoiding picking a winner for this giveaway, even though I said I'd do it by April 24, because I kept thinking about the fact that selecting my winner meant there'd be ten nonwinners.
So, after mulling it over (and tossing in the fact that one's bad-tempered babies only have a first birthday once), I've decided that all 11 entries are giveaway winners! Each of you will receive a signed copy of The Barefooted, Bad-Tempered Baby Brigade. I can inscribe to a particular person or for a particular occasion -- just let me know to whom. I'll also need your mailing address.
Email me at deborah [at] deborahdiesen [dot] com with the name(s) you'd like in the book as well as your mailing address.
It will take me a bit to be in touch with all of you, and also a bit to get everything packaged up and shipped, but I'll aim to have all eleven books out in the mail by May 10. Or thereabouts. If you need your book for a particular upcoming occasion such as a baby shower or birthday, be sure to let me know so I can prioritize yours.
I'm very pleased all of you entered the giveaway drawing! Thank you so much for reading my blog and for showing enthusiasm for those bad-tempered babies. You made their first birthday a particularly fun one!
All best,
Debbie
P.S. to Marleen - it might take me a little while to figure out international mailing issues, so yours may take a little longer...
